this recipe is from Rosemary Gladstar's Herbal Recipes for Vibrant Health
- 2/3 cup distilled water (or rose water)
- 1/3 cup aloe vera gel
- 1-2 drops essential oil of choice (i LOVE lavender and frankincense)
- vitamins a & e as desire (dropper full)
oils
- 3/4 cup oil (apricot (maturing), grape seed (oily), sweet almond (normal))
- 1/3 coconut oil or cocoa butter (cocoa butter has a scent, not one i generally like with above mentioned eos)
- 1/4 tsp lanolin (optional, if you have a wool allergy. i leave it out in the summer for a lighter weight lotion)
- 1/2 - 1 ounce grated beeswax (high end for winter, low end for summer)
- combine waters in measuring cup. set aside
- in double boiler over low heat, combine oils. heat until just melted.
- transfer oils to blender and let them cool to room temperature. it will start to solidify and turn creamy in color
- turn blender on high speed (lid recommended) and slowly pour waters into blender (a slow steady stream is the best). you will hear a change in the blender. turn off, scrape sides and run again, briefly. the cream thickens as it sets.
- pour into jars. store in a cool location
*using tap water, rose water and/or raw aloe gel will make the lotion have an expiration date, a couple months, tops.
